INTRO
Iād like to share my personal story of the healing power of a dog.
My journey into breeding wasnāt something I had always plannedāit was shaped by an experience that changed me. A dog brought light back into my life during one of the hardest seasons Iāve ever faced, and that impact continues to guide everything I do today.
A DIFFICULT SEASON
For nearly two years, I devoted myself to caring for my father as he battled cancer.
After his passing, the days felt heavy. As time went on, the months didnāt make things easierāthey made the loss feel deeper. Everyday tasks became overwhelming, and my emotions often shifted between sadness and anger. Thoughts of my dad were constant, and more often than not, they came with tears.
Grief has a way of changing everything, even the simplest parts of daily life.
REALIZING I NEEDED SOMETHING MORE
After about six months, I realized something needed to change.
I needed something to lift my spiritsāsomething just for me.
For years, I had dreamed of having an Australian Shepherd. That dream resurfaced, but this time it meant more than just having a dog. It meant having something to care for again⦠and in return, something that would need me.
FINDING INDY
Thatās when I found Indy.
She was just a few days old when I first saw her. I was intentional in my search, wanting a healthy puppy from a reputable breeder to avoid additional heartache.
The wait to bring her home felt long, but those weeks were filled with pictures and videos of her growing. That time built anticipation in the best way.
I brought Indy home just before New Yearās.
From the beginning, it felt like she understood exactly what I needed.
She brought joy back into my life. She gave me purpose again. She gave me something to focus on, care for, and love.
MORE THAN ONE HEART TO CARE FOR
Around the time Indy was two months old, my daughter brought home an Australian Shepherd boyāGilbert.
With her busy schedule as a teacher, I helped care for and potty train him.
Now I had two puppies needing my attention, and slowly, something began to shift.
The grief didnāt disappearābut it softened.
There were fewer tears. More moments of laughter. More reasons to stay present.
GROWING INTO PURPOSE
As Gilbert grew and it came time for him to return to my daughter full-time, I knew I wasnāt quite ready to step a
way from that experience.
I had always planned to have more than one Australian Shepherd, and that summer, I brought Skye into our home.
Skye loved unconditionallyāand I loved her right back.
WHERE IT LED ME
That season of my life shaped everything that followed.
What started as a personal need for healing became something much bigger.
It became a purpose.
Today, my goal is to raise Australian Shepherds that bring that same sense of connection, purpose, and joy to others.
When I have a litter of puppies, I have the privilege of loving each one, nurturing them, and preparing them for the lives they will go on to live with their families.
THE HEALING POWER OF A DOG
Dogs donāt replace loss.
But they do something just as important.
They give you something to care about again.
They bring structure back into your day.
They meet you where you areāwithout expectation.
The healing power of a dog is real.
And itās something Iām grateful to be able to share.
