Monroe – Australian Shepherd Service Dog in Training

Chosen for her confidence, human focus, and thoughtful temperament, Monroe is beginning her next chapter as a Service Dog in Training.

Meet Monroe

Monroe has shown the confidence, human focus, and thoughtful temperament we’re looking for in a future service dog, which is why she’ll continue her journey in our Service Dog in Training program.

As she grows and matures, we’ll continue observing how she responds to new environments, works alongside people, and develops through carefully planned training and real-world experiences.

🐾 Every new experience helps us better understand Monroe’s strengths while preparing her for the right future partner.

Development

From early on, Monroe has been raised with focus on real-life experiences.

She’s been introduced to new environments, everyday sounds, and different situations in a way that allows her to build confidence without being overwhelmed.

As she grows, we’ll continued to:

  • build engagement and connection
  • encourage calm behavior in different settings
  • support her ability to observe and settle

🐾 This isn’t rushed. It’s something we allow to develop over time.

Training & Foundation

All dogs in our program earn their:

  • Canine Good Citizen (CGC)
  • Urban Canine Good Citizen (UCGC)

This means Monroe will be able to:

  • remain calm in public environments
  • walk politely on leash
  • respond to handler direction
  • handle distractions
  • settle appropriately in real-life settings

Monroe is not a fully trained service dog at the time of placement.

🐾 From there, her future handler will continue task-specific training tailored to their individual needs, building on the strong foundation and skills developed through our Service Dog in Training program.

Temperament Overview

Spending more time with Kitts has given us a clearer picture of his natural tendencies.

Current observations:

  • Energy: Medium
  • Human Focus: Medium-High
  • Confidence: High
  • Sound Sensitivity: Low

🐾 More than anything, we’ve been able to see how he responds in real-life situations, not just short moments.

What Life May Look Like

Kitts may be a great fit for:

  • someone looking for a calm, responsive companion
  • a home that values connection and consistency
  • individuals needing support through presence and engagement

🐾 The right match depends on both the dog and the person, and we’ll help guide that process.

Public Access Foundation

Because of the time spent in development, Kitts is already comfortable navigating many everyday environments.

He’s had the opportunity to:

  • experience public settings
  • practice calm behavior around distractions
  • stay engaged with his handler

🐾 This foundation makes the transition into continued training more natural and more successful.
